Human Learning Global Edition eBook Jeanne Ellis Ormrod
Dr. Ormrod's personal approach to textbook writing makes what would otherwise be just another drab and boring psych book, an actual pleasure. Never in my life prior to this had I tried to reach out to a textbook author, but I did in this case, just to say thanks. The journey through human learning covers conditioning, cognitive approaches, social cultural theory, memory storage, complex learning, motivation and affect. This book is 500 pages of well explained concepts, cited sources and studies that validate the context and a true keeper for the bookshelf. It's pricey, but its one of those books I don't want to give back at the end of this term. Nicely done Dr. O! Nicely done!Product details

Human Learning Global Edition eBook Jeanne Ellis Ormrod Reviews
I had to read this book for a college class. It is a very hard read. Book does not give enough examples to apply information to scenarios. Book bounced around too much. Could have been written better. Consider something else before buying this book.
Textbook for class- great!
I'm very much a self learner so when I can read my text books and review power points from teachers lectures I'm able to keep up.
Taking a Psychology of Learning class this book is easy to read (though boring at times). Not all learning is fun but this book is well written for the subject.
The author makes it seem like we are in a PLC teacher's meeting and she talks from a place of experience. The author uses funny anecdotes and personal experiences to give examples of the learning. The order of the book helps undersdtand the continuum of the learning theories.
The copy I received looked fine--it was the 2012 softcover edition. However, despite a list price for a new copy that hovers around $145, the book began to fall apart almost immediately. That is, the binding on my copy, as part of typical use, is disintegrating, often showering the floor with loose, cheaply-printed pages. Content is great, physical book is crap.
I loved this book. It has a very conversational style which kept me interested and engaged. The only issue was the formatting. The book did not automatically fill up the screen of my Fire or Iphone and thus I had to zoom in on each page. This was certainly not a deal breaker but a minor annoyance. I learned so much (no pun intended) about learning from reading this book. She uses lots of actual experiments and uses lots of scholarly evidence to support her findings. She is also quite a funny and charming author. Highly recommend!
This textbook is a very basic, easy to read book that is great for sophomores, juniors, and seniors in their undergraduate studies. The concepts are presented in a simple and concise manner, and unlike many psychology texts, this one isn't bombarded with names and frivolous details. What you get instead are the key players, and the most important facts of experiments. That's what I like about this book, it's to the point.
Regarding the poor review from the graduate student, I understand where he or she is coming from. I would hate to have this book assigned for a graduate class, due to its elementary nature. However, for an undergraduate student- it presents the most crucial information in layman's terms(seeming to understand that students commonly take 4-5 classes at a time).
For those who are interested in more of a biological/modern neuroscience approach, I would recommend purchasing books by Eric Kandel, instead.
